Targeted audience surveys have identified the main reasons why people do not participate in initiatives promoting physical activity in Panevėžys: respondents most frequently cite lack of information, lack of time, frequently changing conditions, absence of community, lack of family-friendly options, and infrastructure deficiencies. All of these factors contribute to low overall involvement of Panevėžys residents in physical activity. Therefore, the city municipality is searching for ways to address this challenge.
In order to increase the number of citizens actively spending time outdoors, the municipality must address several complex issues. Managing all the initiatives, projects, and activities happening in the city is very challenging, making it difficult for residents to select relevant information due to its large volume, varied sources, and often outdated or irrelevant nature, making the communication process highly complex.
The municipality believes that based on the survey data, it is possible to create an innovative platform or mobile application where residents can find relevant information promoting active leisure. Such a platform could integrate maps, routes, news, sports event calendars, create amateur sports communities, reserve infrastructure, and more. Citizens able to filter relevant information tailored to their personal interests could actively engage in ongoing initiatives and find other useful information. To popularize such a platform, gamification methods could be implemented, encouraging users to continue and achieve better results - this could include a point system, personal and city records, ratings for good ideas or photos, activity statistics, and prizes.
The platform or web application should be accessible via regular computers or mobile phones, user-friendly, and easy to administer. It is necessary to analyze possible levels of hierarchy for visitors and administrators so that information can be changed as quickly as possible and the risk of misinformation minimized. Since the platform would be intended for various individuals, measures need to be taken to prevent data leaks and criminal activity.
